Cécille Chaminade , 1857/08/08 (Paris)‒1944/04/13 (Monte Carlo). Pianist and composer. Studied composition with Godard. Wrote a ballet-symphonie, a symphonie lyrique, an opĂ©ra comique, piano concerto, and many, many songs and piano pieces. Perhaps her best-known work remains the Concertino for flute and orchestra. First female composer to be named a Chevalier de la Légion d‘honneur. As she grew older, she composed less and less.
